The problem

Deceased identity fraud is a multi billion dollar problem

Fraudsters use the identities of people who have passed away to open bank accounts, apply for credit cards, take out loans and even secure jobs. The estates and families rarely notice in time, and businesses absorb the loss.

The gap exists because most death data is slow. When records take two to three months to surface, criminals have a wide open window. Death Verifier closes that window.

  • New credit and card accounts opened in a deceased person's name
  • Loan and mortgage applications using stolen deceased identities
  • Employment and payroll fraud during hiring and onboarding
  • Benefit, pension and entitlement payments sent to deceased recipients
  • Ongoing collections and outreach to accounts that should be suppressed
Death VerifierWithin a week

Confirmed deceased records are available days after a person passes, closing the fraud window fast.

Typical providers2 to 3 months

Slow reporting leaves a long gap where deceased identities can be used undetected.

We are one of the only companies in the United States that surfaces confirmed deceased consumer records within a week. That speed is the difference between catching fraud and paying for it.

Frequently asked questions

Everything banks, lenders and fraud teams ask before they start.

What is Death Verifier?

Death Verifier is a deceased consumer verification service that lets banks, lenders and enterprises confirm whether a person is deceased. You upload a list of names and receive confirmed matches with date of birth, date of death, age and last known property address.

How fresh is your death data?

We add confirmed deceased consumer records every week, often within seven days of a person passing away. Most other providers are two to three months behind, which leaves a window fraudsters use to open accounts and apply for credit in a deceased person's name.

How much does it cost to verify records?

Standard verification is $0.04 per record. Bulk pricing drops to $0.01 per record when you verify at least 100,000 records per month. You only pay for confirmed matches, so there is no charge for records we cannot verify.

What fields do I need to upload?

At a minimum you need first name and last name. Adding middle name, date of birth, city or state improves match accuracy. You can upload a CSV or Excel file, or send records in real time through our API.

Do you offer an API for real time verification?

Yes. Our REST API lets banks, card issuers and platforms verify a single identity or a batch in real time during account opening, credit applications or claims processing. See the developers page for full API documentation.

Which areas do you cover?

Death Verifier provides confirmed deceased consumer records across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, with nationwide city and state coverage.
